Parties Campaign and Allege Violence Ahead of Mbeere North By-election - November 2025

Political activities are intensifying in Mbeere North ahead of the upcoming by-election scheduled for November 27. Opposition parties are establishing a base in the region to strategize, and their leaders have convened to campaign for candidate Newton Kariuki. In a separate event, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also publicly endorsed Newton Kariuki for the Mbeere North seat during a church service in Embu. The campaign has been marred by conflict, with accusations of violence between the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the opposition Democracy for the Citizens party (DCP). Following the chaos, Deputy President Gachagua’s party has reported President Ruto's party to the police.
