The debate surrounding Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in Kenya is intensifying. Walimu wanagenzi (intern teachers) of primary and secondary schools are threatening to strike from January 2026. Their primary demand is for the government to grant them permanent employment contracts. Similarly, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has also threatened to go on strike. KUPPET's action is conditional on the government failing to employ over 20,000 junior secondary school teachers who are currently serving in various schools.
