Former CJ David Maraga accuses police of using unnecessary force against United Opposition leaders
Police Disperse Opposition Rallies in Kitengela and Nyamakima; One Person Killed - February 2026
Police intervened in multiple opposition gatherings, using tear gas to disperse crowds. In Kitengela, a political meeting led by the Edwin Sifuna faction descended into chaos, resulting in the death of one person, Vincent Oyaro, who was reportedly shot dead by police. An ODM rally in the same area, organized by Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, was also met with tear gas. In Nairobi's city center, police dispersed a political rally attended by opposition leaders like DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka using tear gas. Following a separate incident at an ACK Witima Church, Gachagua demanded accountability. Former Chief Justice David Maraga also criticized the Kenyan police for their excessive use of force against United Opposition leaders.
