Three Garissa officials charged over 51 million shilling drought relief fraud - February 2026
Three officials from Garissa County have been charged in court over allegations of defrauding the county of Ksh 51 million intended for drought relief food in 2022. Meanwhile, Homa Bay County Deputy Governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga has officially resigned from his position, representing a separate case of administrative accountability. Environmental organizations have separately demanded an immediate halt to the construction of the National Youth Service housing project within Karura Forest, highlighting different forms of governmental oversight and accountability.
