Linda Mwananchi Faction Holds First Rally in Kisumu Amid ODM Split - April 2026

A rival faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), known as Linda Mwananchi, is holding its first rally in Kisumu, intensifying the internal battle for control of the party and potentially fragmenting the Nyanza vote. The emergence of the People's Renaissance Movement (PRM), the 93rd registered political party in Kenya, is highlighting significant divisions within ODM as the country approaches the 2027 elections. Leaders from Vihiga County have criticized Oburu Oginga, accusing him of violating the ethical standards of the ODM party and disregarding resolutions made by the late Raila Odinga. Additionally, a faction within ODM, calling itself the Linda Mwananchi faction, has declared Siaya Governor James Orengo as the Acting ODM Party leader and a potential challenger to President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.
