Matatu Operators Launch Nationwide Strike Over Fuel Prices - May 2026

A nationwide matatu strike is underway in Kenya as operators protest escalating fuel prices. The strike commenced on 26th May 2026, impacting public transportation across the country. Traders in Narok are experiencing declining sales and product spoilage due to the rising cost of fuel, which has consequently increased the prices of goods in the local market. Waziri Opiyo Wandayi has stated that Kenya has sufficient fuel reserves to meet domestic demand. Meanwhile, Muslims in Trans-Nzoia are appealing to the Kenyan government to take action and lower the current fuel prices.
