Murkomen reports 355 arrests, hails peaceful June 25 demonstrations - June 2026
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen reported 355 arrests during the June 25 Gen Z anniversary demonstrations, stating that security agencies largely prevented criminal infiltration of the protests. He declared the demonstrations a "complete failure of political scavengers," arguing that politicians attempting to turn commemorations into anti-government mobilizations were unsuccessful. Approximately 74 individuals arrested during the June 25 protests in Nairobi are scheduled to be arraigned in the Milimani Magistrates' Court. Regions including Nyanza, Coast, and North Eastern recorded no arrests, with Mombasa singled out as a model for peaceful protests.
