Gachagua Accuses IEBC of Failing to Protect Ol Kalou By-Election Integrity
Gachagua Claims 68 Women Raped by Police in Ol Kalou Chaos - July 2026
Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has accused police of rape and violence during the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, claiming 68 women were raped. The by-election was marred by widespread voter bribery and violence, with reports of masked men, chaos, and tear gas disrupting the electoral process. Gachagua blamed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and the IEBC for the chaotic incidents that disrupted voting. The IEBC officially denied any involvement with masked and hooded men observed patrolling Ol Kalou during the mini-polls. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen ordered a thorough investigation into alleged violence, stressing that anyone found responsible would face arrest.
