Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has accused police of rape and violence during the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election in Nyandarua County, claiming 68 women were raped. The by-election was marred by widespread voter bribery and violence, with reports of masked men, chaos, and tear gas disrupting the electoral process. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially denied any involvement with masked and hooded men observed patrolling Ol Kalou during the mini-polls. Gachagua blamed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and the IEBC for the chaotic incidents, accusing the government of using police to unfairly influence the election. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen subsequently ordered a thorough investigation into alleged violence, stressing that anyone found responsible would face arrest.
