The Attorney-General has urged the High Court not to review the grounds of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's ouster, asserting the matter is not open to judicial review on its merits. Gachagua's legal team has argued the impeachment was a "parliamentary coup" and challenged the Senate decision in court. Petitioners have also argued the impeachment was politically engineered by President William Ruto's administration to control Mt Kenya politics. Meanwhile, the court has allowed medical evidence from Gachagua's doctor regarding his health during the impeachment proceedings. Gachagua has warned that his potential removal could pave the way for political retribution.
