President William Ruto has announced a significant government investment of 15.6 billion shillings into a housing project located in Wajir County. The announcement was made during the 63rd Madaraka Day celebrations, marking a historic first as Wajir became the first northern county to host the national celebration. Wajir Stadium was filled to capacity, forcing officials to close the gates and turn away attendees. In a unique cultural gesture, Wajir elders presented President Ruto with a gift of 100 camels. The celebrations took place against the backdrop of a nationwide matatu strike, with residents expressing significant expectations for the Presidential address. The stadium was renamed in honor of the late former Wajir West MP Ahmed Khalif ahead of the celebrations.
