President William Ruto has appointed former police spokesperson Charles Owino as the new Government Spokesperson, succeeding Isaac Mwaura. This change is part of a broader set of appointments and promotions within the Kenyan Executive announced on Tuesday, which also included nominees to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Separately, President Ruto nominated Dr. Duncan Ojwang Oburu to chair the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) in a series of appointments to constitutional commissions and public bodies. At the same time, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua dismissed Ruto's order to crack down on goons as 'theatrics,' claiming rogue police officers collude with criminal gangs to terrorize Kenyans. These developments come as CCTV forensic analysis revealed Albert Ojwang entered Central Police Station in Nairobi alive but was later removed unresponsive, a key development in his murder trial.
