Tragedy struck Kisumu on Friday evening when a devastating road accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega road claimed the lives of 19 people. The ghastly crash involved a school bus, also leaving 26 others seriously injured at the Coptic roundabout in the Mamboleo area.

• The incident involved a school bus hired by mourners returning from a funeral in Nyahera and heading to Nyakach.
• According to eye witness Hesbon Ongany, the bus driver was speeding and lost control at a notorious blackspot, causing the vehicle to overturn and land in a ditch.
• The injured were rushed to Kisumu County Referral Hospital and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, with several in critical condition.
