Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has issued an urgent call to the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) for the immediate reconstruction and redesign of a road section in Mamboleo following a tragic bus accident that claimed 26 lives. The governor visited Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) where 26 survivors are receiving treatment.

• The fatal bus crash occurred on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Coptic Roundabout on the Kisumu-Kakamega highway.
• Governor Nyong'o urged KeNHA to redesign this black spot and called for blood donations to aid the victims.
• The death toll rose to 26 after one critically injured person succumbed on Saturday, August 9, as confirmed by County Executive Committee Member Gregory Ganda.
• An information desk at JOOTRH is operating 24/7 to assist affected families, and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also expressed condolences.
