A tragic road accident occurred on August 8, 2025, on the Kisumu-Kakamega Road near Coptic Roundabout and Mamboleo area, involving a school bus carrying mourners from the Sigoti Clan. Initial reports indicated 19 to 21 fatalities, which later rose to 25 or 26 deaths with 32 survivors, many in critical condition, receiving treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
