Lecturers at Moi University have issued a seven-day strike notice, threatening to down tools starting August 20, 2025. The Universities' Academic Staff Union (UASU) cites multiple grievances, primarily the university's failure to pay June and July 2025 salaries at negotiated rates and the non-implementation of the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- UASU National Secretary General Constantine Wasonga signed the internal communiqué dated August 12, addressed to Chairman of the Council Prof. Noah Midamba.
- The strike is prompted by Moi University's alleged failure to honor staff promotion clauses, implement a 'Return-To-Work Formula' from November 30, 2024, and adhere to retirement age provisions.
- Separately, Moi University has increased hostel fees, with male hostels now costing up to Ksh5,000 and Ksh7,000 per year, and some female hostels reaching Ksh8,000 to Ksh13,000 annually.
