President William Ruto announced a Ksh10 million reward for world-record-breaking athlete Faith Kipyegon in recognition of her recent victories. The announcement was made during a luncheon at State House.
- Faith Kipyegon broke her own 1500m world record, clocking 3:48.68, becoming the first woman to run under 3:49. She also competed in the 3000m, achieving 8:07.04.
- President Ruto referenced the Ministry of Sports' July announcement, confirming a 400 per cent increase in prize money and a special Ksh55 million fund awarded to athletes.
- Beatrice Chebet also made history, becoming the first woman to run the 5000m in under 14 minutes, setting a world record of 13:58:06. President Ruto promised Kipyegon and Chebet a combined Ksh15 million.
- Under the new reward structure, Olympic and Paralympic gold medallists will now receive Ksh3 million, up from Ksh750,000.
- Commonwealth Games gold medallists are set to receive Ksh2.5 million, up from Ksh500,000.
