Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja is facing criticism following allegations by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) of police harassment and intimidation against Otsieno Namwaya, Associate Africa Director at Human Rights Watch.

• KHRC reports that police officers allegedly raided Namwaya's home and conducted surveillance between August 23 and 25.
• The alleged harassment by officers from the DCI's Operation Support Unit follows weeks of attempts by individuals believed to be from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to gain access to the activist.
• The KHRC has urged President William Ruto's administration to ensure the safety of human rights defenders and called on IG Kanja to halt all surveillance and intimidation of Namwaya, who has served at Human Rights Watch for over 13 years.
