✨ Key Highlights
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced on Wednesday, September 3, that the Marigat–Loruk (B17) Road remains closed due to severe flooding caused by rising Lake Baringo water levels. This closure, initially implemented on August 21, affects the section between kilometre 29+800 and kilometre 40+000, which is still impassable.
- KeNHA has provided alternative routes, including a graded diversion at kilometre 29+200 on the Marigat–Loruk Road, connecting to the Loruk–Chemalingot Road at kilometre 2+400.
- The main reason for the closure is the significant risk posed by floodwaters, which can erode road surfaces, create dangerous potholes and sinkholes, and generate strong currents capable of sweeping away vehicles.
- The authority did not specify the duration of the closure due to unpredictable weather patterns affecting water levels.
