Kenya Railways is set to launch a modern intracity commuter train connecting the Mombasa SGR Terminus to the City Centre this month. The Ksh 6 billion project aims to ease traffic congestion and provide seamless connectivity for passengers in Mombasa County.

• The commuter train will carry 4,000 passengers daily between Mombasa's central business district and the SGR terminus.
• Transport CS Davis Chirchir announced the daily passenger capacity during an inspection tour on September 5, 2025.
• The project, which began in September 2022, included rehabilitating an existing metre-gauge railway (MGR) line and constructing a new MGR station.
