The National Construction Authority (NCA) is set to demolish a four-story building under construction in Gitaru, Kiambu County, due to severe structural instability and the use of substandard materials, posing a significant risk to workers and nearby structures.

• A demolition permit was issued by the Kiambu County Government on September 10, after an NCA Quality Assurance team found the building used substandard concrete, sand, coarse aggregates, reinforcement steel, and cement during a September 8 inspection.
• The building was constructed without approval from the NCA, and construction works were suspended on Monday, with adjacent buildings evacuated.
• Maurice Akech, Executive Director of NCA, stated that several ground-level columns are under severe stress, have buckled, and are on the verge of collapse.
• A multi-sectoral team, including officials from the Kiambu County Government and the Engineers' Boards of Kenya, has been formed to conduct a structural audit, and all parties involved in the unlawful construction will face legal sanctions.
