The companies have been issued a set deadline expiring in 24 hours...
✨ Key Highlights
The Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO) has issued a directive requiring all Collective Management Organisations (CMOs) to apply for licenses before September 18, 2025. This move aims to ensure effective representation of creatives in the administration and distribution of royalties.
- All CMOs must apply for licenses via the eCitizen platform or mail a hard copy to KECOBO headquarters by September 18, 2025, at 05:00 PM.
- KECOBO previously cautioned the public against remitting royalties to the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) due to a High Court ruling denying their application to collect funds, and against Performing and Audio Visual Rights Society of Kenya (PAVRISK) whose license was revoked in 2024.
- CMOs manage copyright and related rights for creators, acting as intermediaries between rights holders and users, collecting license fees and royalties for distribution.
