The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has shut down ten petrol stations across Kenya as part of a nationwide crackdown, following inspections between July and September this year. These closures are due to the sale of adulterated or non-compliant fuel to motorists and for diverting export-destined fuel for local sale.
- 6,090 fuel tests were conducted at 1,315 petroleum sites during the inspection period.
- 12 sites were found to be non-compliant, leading to the closure of ten stations.
- Non-compliant stations were identified in Kisumu, Machakos, Makueni, Bungoma, Vihiga, Nyandarua, Kilifi, Meru, and Mombasa Counties.
- A station in Nakuru County was reopened after paying Ksh102,400 in penalties.
