The Ministry of Health has requested funds from the National Treasury to settle Sh5.3 billion in pending debts owed to healthcare facilities by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

• The arrears are for facilities owed less than Sh10 million each, prioritizing smaller hospitals as per a presidential directive.
• Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale made the request, emphasizing that clearance of these obligations will restore confidence among service providers.
• These Sh5.3 billion debts are part of a larger Sh33 billion in outstanding NHIF payments flagged by the government.
