The National Land Commission (NLC) has reserved over 4,800 acres of land across Kenya for various government entities to expand security infrastructure and other services, as announced in an October 26 gazette notice.

  • The NLC has allocated 1,974 hectares for the National Intelligence Service (NIS) in Taita Taveta County for security infrastructure development.
  • An additional 1.941 hectares in Mbita, Homa Bay County, have been reserved for the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) for a park area and ancillary services.
  • The Kilifi county government will receive a total of 1,014.15 hectares for settlement purposes and a salt farm.
  • All institutions are required to develop a land use plan within 180 days, ensure 10% tree cover, and conduct Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) before major developments.
