The Senate Committee on Trade, Industrialisation, and Tourism has given the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) a seven-day ultimatum to explain recent park fee increases and an 8.5 per cent gateway levy. The committee, chaired by Kwale Senator Issa Boy Juma, demanded that KWS submit regulations to the Senate and reappear before them on November 27.
- The new charges, based on the Wildlife Conservation and Management (Access, Entry, and Conservation) (Fees) Regulations of 2025, were approved by Parliament on September 25.
- KWS Deputy Director General Erastus Kanja met with the committee, which raised concerns about the lack of public participation and the agency's disregard for a court order halting the new charges.
- Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago stressed the importance of KWS following the law and involving the Senate in such regulations.
