Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has achieved a significant medical milestone by performing Kenya's first orbital–facial prosthesis in a public hospital. This groundbreaking procedure successfully restored the facial symmetry and function for John Munyiri, a 65-year-old farmer from Laikipia, who had undergone extensive surgery for maxillary carcinoma.

• The orbital–facial prosthesis was fitted in January 2026, marking a first for Kenya's public healthcare system.
• John Munyiri suffered from maxillary carcinoma, an aggressive sinus cancer, leading to the removal of his left eye, part of his nose, and sections of his upper jaw in June 2023.
• A multidisciplinary team from the KNH Dental Unit, including Consultant ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon Dr. Samuel Okerosi and Consultant Prosthodontist Dr. Margaret Mwasha, collaborated on the achievement.
