The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has issued a 14-day strike notice to the Meru County government over unresolved labor disputes, threatening to halt health services.

• KMPDU is demanding the conversion of doctors from locum and short-term contracts to permanent and pensionable terms and the implementation of long-overdue promotions, some pending for over a decade.
• Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah cited acute staffing shortages, forcing doctors to work beyond the statutory 40-hour week and denying them study leave.
• If demands are not met, doctors will withdraw services effective midnight on Friday, March 6, 2026.
