The Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) has secured a Special User License from the Kenya Forest Service to construct an underground pipeline through a section of Karura Forest.

• The pipeline will add 211 million litres of water per day to Eastern Nairobi's supply.
• The project is financed by the Government of Kenya and the French Development Agency (AFD).
• Installation works within the forest are scheduled to take approximately four months, with full restoration of the affected area planned.
