Kenya's Ministry of Trade has pledged to address concerns over double taxation and regulatory pressures raised by manufacturers, which threaten to increase the prices of goods and services.

• Manufacturers, led by the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), are particularly concerned about a Ksh150 per-item fee on non-hazardous packaging under new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations, fearing it amounts to double taxation and higher operational costs.
• The Ministry of Trade, represented by State Department for Industry official Erastus Gatebe, will engage with stakeholders including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), NEMA, and the Kenya Trade Network Agency to review the fee.
• Manufacturers are urged to submit detailed proposals to the Ministry of Trade to inform policy decisions, as some companies consider exiting the Kenyan market due to increasing operational expenses.
