Kenya Power has explained that unexpectedly high electricity bills for post-paid meter customers are due to automatic system corrections that reconcile past underbilling caused by manual meter reading errors.

• The issue arises when meter readers submit inaccurate or "forged" readings, leading to a cumulative adjustment when an accurate reading is finally taken.
• This explanation was provided by Joy Mdivo, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Kenya Power Company.
• Customers who receive moderate bills may suddenly face much higher ones, sometimes ranging from Ksh10,000 to Ksh70,000, as the system accounts for previously unbilled consumption.
