Firms engaged in the carbon credit trade in Kajiado County face stringent new disclosure requirements or risk sanctions, following a petition by local residents concerned about opaque practices.

• Carbon credit firms must now fully disclose pricing models, projected revenues, costs, risks, and revenue-sharing structures with communities before receiving a Letter of No Objection from the county government.
• The measures were initiated by the Kajiado County Assembly Sectoral Committee on Water, Environment and Natural Resources in response to a petition from Kajiado West residents filed in July 2025.
• Issues highlighted include a lack of meaningful public participation, violations of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), and non-transparent benefit-sharing arrangements.
