Kenya's National Police Service (NPS) is proposing a new dedicated unit to combat the growing problem of alcohol smuggling across borders.

• The proposed Border Alcohol Smuggling Interdiction Unit would involve officers from the NPS, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA).
• Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja highlighted that transnational syndicates are increasingly smuggling industrial ethanol and counterfeit branded alcohol.
• This illicit trade is linked to organized crime, drug trafficking, and has resulted in deaths and serious health complications in Kenya.
