A Molo farmer, Ms Ann Wanjiku Njenga, has switched from growing maize to tomatoes, finding significantly greater profitability and ease of cultivation.

• The switch was prompted by a drastic increase in the annual leasing fee for maize farming from Sh15,000 to Sh25,000.
• Ms Wanjiku generated the equivalent of five years of maize earnings from just one year of tomato sales.
• She found that tomatoes are easier to grow, mature quickly, and are in high demand, leading her to expand her cultivation plans.
