Members of Parliament (MPs) have rejected a proposal by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to impose new speed limits on highways, citing concerns about worsening traffic congestion.

• The Parliamentary Committee on Transport and Infrastructure advised NTSA to focus on road safety measures that do not impede traffic flow.
• NTSA currently uses an automated system with over 1,000 traffic cameras to enforce existing speed limits, issuing fines up to Ksh10,000.
• MPs believe the proposed restrictions could cause unnecessary delays and disrupt motorist movement.
