Governors Urge Ministry of Health to Rethink Funding Cuts to Dispensaries
Governors Launch Health Initiatives Amid Funding Cuts and SHA Opposition - November 2025
The Council of Governors has revealed a new strategy aimed at improving maternal and newborn health outcomes and reducing mortality rates across Kenya. This initiative addresses the challenge of an estimated 134,000 babies born prematurely annually, which leads to 33,600 newborn deaths each year from related complications. Separately, Governors are appealing to the Ministry of Health to reconsider its decision to cut funding for dispensaries, a move that could severely impact primary healthcare services. Concurrently, teachers in Nairobi are opposing a government plan to transition them to a new social health authority scheme as part of national healthcare reforms.
