Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, has announced that construction for the planned Lamu oil refinery in Kenya will commence on September 30, 2026.

• The refinery is projected to have a daily processing capacity of 700,000 barrels of crude oil.
• The project, with a revised cost of Sh2 trillion, will be financed by 70% debt (approximately Sh1.45 trillion) and 30% shareholders' funds (about Sh621 billion).
