Two Burundian nationals have been charged in a Mombasa court for the possession and attempted sale of 27 pieces of elephant tusks, estimated to be worth over Kshs12 million. They were apprehended by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) in Miritini, Mombasa County, following a sting operation.
- 62.85 kilograms of ivory, valued at approximately Kshs12,570,000, was confiscated from the suspects.
- The accused appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate David Odhiambo and were charged under Section (4) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013 (as amended).
- Each suspect was granted a bond of Kshs4 million with one Kenyan surety, and ordered to surrender their passports.
