Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has intervened to secure the release of 110 mothers allegedly detained at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital over unpaid delivery fees, following a newspaper report.

• Sonko paid the outstanding bills and committed to covering their Social Health Authority (SHA) fees for long-term medical access.
• The hospital's CEO, Fredrick Obwanda, denied detention claims, stating they were protecting financial interests with 100+ women awaiting bill clearance, risking Ksh2 million daily.
• Obwanda attributed the issue to mothers not registering for SHA, despite a team encouraging registration, and rejected accusations of poor treatment and mothers sleeping on benches.
