The Kenyan government has assured Kakamega County residents that the recent discovery of a Ksh. 683 billion gold deposit in Isulu–Bushiangala will significantly benefit the local community. This reassurance comes amid a showcase of numerous development projects across the Western region.
- Under Kenyan mining law, 10% of the mining proceeds will go directly to the local community, with 20% to Kakamega County and 70% to the national government.
- Government Spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura confirmed that the mining company must also allocate 1% of its annual gross sales to local development projects, managed by a 14-member community committee.
- The government emphasized that no one will be displaced without proper compensation, with teams already on-site to ensure a transparent process.
