Teachers Transition to SHA Health Insurance Amid Payment and Scheme Concerns - December 2025

Teachers in Kenya have begun receiving healthcare services through the SHA insurance scheme, which concludes a partnership of over a decade with a previous private insurer. However, the transition has been met with some uncertainty. Doubts have emerged regarding the health insurance for teachers under the Social Health Authority (SHA) even before its official launch, causing concern among educators. In addition to this, Askofu Anthony Muheria has highlighted challenges that hospitals are facing regarding SHA payments. These payment issues are reported to be impacting healthcare facilities across Kenya.
