Govt to spend Sh784.5bn on education sector - June 2026
The Kenyan government plans to significantly boost spending on the education sector, allocating a record Sh784.5 billion for the upcoming financial year. This represents a substantial increase and underscores education as the largest recipient of ministerial funding. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi unveiled Kenya's Sh4.3 trillion national budget for 2026/27, prioritizing education and national security. The European Union and Equity Group Foundation have partnered to broaden access to education and international learning, with plans to send 100 top-performing scholars annually to pursue master's degrees at European universities.
