Matatu operators have suspended their nationwide strike for seven days following a meeting with government officials. The strike, which began earlier this week, was a protest against rising fuel prices. At least 12 people tragically lost their lives during protests across Kenya against the rising cost of fuel, with reports also indicating 20 injuries. A 22-year-old engineering student was shot dead in Kakamega amidst the protests. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki praised matatu operators and owners for heeding the government's call to end their strike over high fuel prices. Meanwhile, fishermen on Rusinga Island in Homa Bay County are experiencing significant financial losses due to the sharp increase in fuel prices, which has severely hampered their fishing operations. MP Jane Kihara is calling for the suspension of government projects to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices.
