A Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) compliance officer, Evans Agumba Oriato, was charged in the Kisumu Anti-Corruption Court for allegedly soliciting and receiving a Kes500,000 bribe. He reportedly demanded the money to "assist" Jane Memorial Secondary School with tax filings.

• Evans Agumba Oriato was arrested after being caught receiving an additional Sh250,000 during an operation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
• The complaint originated from Jane Memorial Secondary School, which was summoned by Oriato to discuss filing of nil returns for the years 2016 to 2020.
• Oriato initially demanded Sh1 million to resolve purported filing irregularities, receiving a down payment of Sh500,000 on December 31, 2021.
• He denied three counts of receiving a bribe and was released on a bond of Sh500,000 with a surety of a similar amount.
• The case is part of EACC's ongoing crackdown against bribery and corruption at public service delivery points.
